COREY SMITH - INTRODUCTION
Yaismel Alba Garib - The life I give
A body continues to spray water on eight pieces of rebar that are held in four blocks of cement. The corrosion that has been growing is now used by the body to mark itself. The body exposes its marks.
Keny De la Peña - Liviandad
In this work in progress, Keny aims to begin an exploration in passion, opulence, decadence, and self sabotage; viewing humans as pleasure seekers making misguided replacements and substitutions to compensate for interior unease. Through this piece, thus, exploring these overwhelming and intermingled feelings of both lack and excess.
Sylvia Bowersox - Quarantine Driving With my PTSD Brain
*CW: VIOLENT IMAGES OF WAR*
In this video me and my PTSD brain have an argument while driving through COVID deserted Las Vegas. My brain plays tricks on me and blends the sands of Las Vegas with the sands of war in Iraq.
Aram Atamian - Two Flags
Two Flags, a performance for video, considers the ephemerality of nationhood along with the possibility for future communities to emerge in the wake of displacement. At 2PM on November 10th 2020 I received in the mail a flag that I had purchased on Amazon several weeks before. The flag represented the Republic of Artsakh, a self-determined republic of ethnic Armenians indigenous to the region. It was polyester, made in China, and claimed to possess something called ‘fading resistance’. That morning I woke to the news that two thirds of the Republic had fell under the control of Azerbaijan, displacing over 100,000 people, and now, as I held the flag in its plastic wrapper, it struck me that it was obsolete upon arrival.
